Items
The Shelter Hearts event is nearing its end. You have twenty four hours left to purchase a Shelter Hearts item. Remember, 50% of proceeds made from this item go toward West Suburban Humane Society, the shelter I got my cat from.
You have, as a userbase, purchased 89 Shelter Hearts. If you purchase 125 Shelter Hearts, I'll donate 75% of the proceeds to the shelter. If you manage to purchase a total of 150 Shelter Hearts, I'll donate 100% of the proceeds to the shelter (meaning $1500 total).
Sound good?

Also to add onto it the timing of this couldn't be worse. It's literally the end of the month. Peoples mortgage/rent payements are due, not to mention car payments, electric, phone, INTERNET bills are all going to be coming up due. This is statistically the time when people who don't have much money have even less to spend. Not to mention if you're like me you don't get paid till friday and it's been since friday of the week before last week that I got paid and only have so much to last till the end of the week. It's not nice to poopoo people who state the fact that they would like to donate but can't because they can't afford to. The suffering of animals is a noble cause to send your money to, but if you only have $3 to your name right now and it costs $10-15 to make the donation guess what? No matter how guilty you make them feel, they still can't donate! And even if you did have the money to donate, but that was the only money you had to last you till the end of the week, then why would you want to give up your money in the name of "charity" to line the pockets of someone else who already has money coming in elsewhere on site (GP sales) and, no offense, doesn't need it as badly as you do. There are no advertising costs associated with this drive as there is no one to pay for promoting this. It's going up on slash's owned and already funded site. About the only extra cost with this is for paying the artist, and I doubt they are the one getting the other half of the proceeds. I'll save my money and give it to ARK down the street from me, or The Last Chance Ranch up in Quakertown, or any of my local shelters who will get ALL of the money that I donate regardless of how many others do or don't contribute.

Wow, really? If you find such an issue with Slash's policy in regards to the event that he hosted to raise funds for his local humane shelter, then take your money and donate it directly to your local shelter. He said as much when he began the event- we were all encouraged to donate to our local shelters. I don't see any deception or dirty profiteering here, and it's really quite insulting to see people insinuating that. I don't donate online because I don't have a paypal account, (and I refuse to get one because I positively loathe paypal's service) but I intend to make a small donation to my local shelter. Stop quibbling over policy and actually do something to back up your complaints if you truly care so much about this. -Apollo

That last comment was written before your latest comment, Kaiten. I'm glad to see that some of this complaining is being put to good use, but it's still very hurtful and negative. Not the kind of attitude Aywas needs. :l -Apollo

Trust me, I do understand that charities do cost money, lineart does cost money, servers do cost money, but I'm confused about the last sentence. Why are they only willing to give 100% of the profits when we buy 150 Shelter Hearts? If they're willing to give 100%, why does it matter how many we buy? At that point, you know none of it is going to servers or lineart, so why can't they just give 100% now? Maybe there's something I'm missing, but I just can't wrap my head around it.

Not sure who you're referring to Apollo, but I don't see why we can't discuss these things. I think everyone's been quite civil so far! A far cry from most sites I've been on, thank you very much Aywas. C: Besides, who says they haven't donated to some local shelters already and instead are just adding in their two cents? People aren't attacking Slash for this, just stating their feelings on the matter. (Another loather of Paypal here btw).

Agreed, ebonySCYTHE. I can't speak for everyone, but I know I'm personally not trying to attack anyone. Any money donated is better than none at all. At the very least, I think we can agree that this has raised awareness and even prompted people to donate to local shelters. I'm simply confused, that's all. No hatred, just bewilderment.

It was a general blanket address since the targeting of specific users is against TOS. There have been some people that have been less civil in this discussion though, myself probably included with my first comment. I suppose I was mostly upset because the complaining doesn't seem constructive at all. Instead of complaining, simply state that you have chosen to donate to your local shelter instead of online because you would like 100 percent of the donation to go to the charity. Badgering Slash to donate more is kind of rude; the event was put on to raise awareness and to offer incentive to people who might not ordinarily donate. I don't actually know what kind of profit Aywas makes off of GP sales, but it's probably not a huge amount. I believe Slash probably threw this prompt for more sales as a last minute idea than anything premeditated and greedy. (Oh good, another Paypal loather. When someone makes a service I don't mind using, I'll join up to that, but Paypal doesn't get any of my money :P) -Apollo

@Kayana: Man, I wish it were as simple as do or don't! Sometimes, and I'm not talking about this donation drive, the digging I have to do to make an informed choice really drives me to the point of giving up. I wish things were more transparent here in the US. More power to the people who make those informed decisions tho. @ The Wolf: I know he has wonderful intentions (I would love to see ALL pets sites run these types of things), however it's healthy to be cynical sometimes. Sure we could make the $1500 mark, but doing it in 24 hours with no advance notice is asking a lot, unless I really have that poor of a handle on the site's finances (I certainly could!). Not everyone logs in every day either. Of course I don't want people to read this as some sort of attack on the whole thing, or that I'm saying "don't donate, we can't do it/it's not worth it", but I really do wonder why he's only now offering us the ability to achieve a 100% donation rate. Wouldn't it have been more effective to have set this goal earlier? Regardless, I'm glad more attention's being given to shelters. I feel like I have to remind people all the time that puppy mills are rampant these days, and to rescue instead.
