Evening, folks! Inspired by recent events, we're all going to gather 'round and talk about some general Internet and online game red flags so we can continue to have a safe community.
It has come to our attention that at least one account has been mass-spamming other players with similar messages, offering free avatar art and asking for IM accounts. These kinds of scams are usually an attempt to get your personal information, solicit minors or phish for account passwords. Staff can't do anything about offsite activities, which is why most people with bad intentions try to work through instant messengers.
Never, ever give someone personally identifying information or click on links from people you don't know. When opting to give a user your offsite contact information, do so with a pound of caution and at your own risk. Don't take candy from strangers, let alone tell them your favorite kind!
If you have acted on a message like the one described above, we strongly suggest you block the IM account(s) and change your password(s) to be on the safe side.
If you ever encounter a user or message that looks suspicious to you or just gives you that bad feeling in your gut, please do not hesitate to contact a staff member immediately. People like this aren't exactly going to waltz up to our doors, but they will go to players that look established or unsuspecting, so we really rely on you guys to let us know when something is amiss. Thank you!

I got that message too, and I was confused so I said "What?" Then they actually replied back with contact information on various accounts. But I ignored it. They said they drew my HA "nekkie" which just weirded me out...
I do feel better knowing it was a scam and I wasn't ignoring some real user.

I actually did receive a ton of messages from that player... They were actually kind of... nice. I did report her after awhile, but then she.. Well... She showed me the drawing that she had drawn "of my ha." It looked nothing like her, but.
She didn't ask me for anything, really, she didn't. I don't think she had actually drawn the art that she showed me, but she did offer her IM and such.
From what I saw, if anything, she was just a liar who was trying to get people to think she could draw.

I also got a message like this... And didn't respond quite yet since it looked kinda suspicious. I'm glad to see this user has been apprehended. ^^ Keep up the good work, this shall be a good lesson for everyone to start being suspicious when someone graciously offers free art. :P

I'm going to clarify my last post, and say that they did send me the "nekkid" HA art through my private messages. The offered their own IM info, never though technically asked for mine. We exchanged around 10 messages on Aywas, and after that second message, they never mentioned their IM info again, nor asked for mine. They were even nice when I told them that I had thought that they meant they drew the ACTUAL HA art. I don't know what they said to other people, and unless I do, I'll be quite skeptic still, but the only thing that really bothered me was that I didn't think it was their own art. Which, I'll admit, I didn't report, because honestly, I had no proof it wasn't there.

The user that was sending out those messages has been banned, but in the future, yeah, you can PM any moderator about something like that (lots of people did, which was why we were able to act, but since the user messaged /so many/ people, we wanted to make an announcement). - Eri
