Something Interesting

Site Update

I just heard something interesting. Apparently, if you add the following user to your friends list, something cool will appear on the site for you to try out, before we make our final decision on releasing it..... Or something along those lines ;) Rumor has it, if you add this user to your friends list, you will be able to do a lot of cool things with the rest of your friends!

Something Awesome (#27037)

I know i've added this suspicious looking user myself ;) Why don't you give it a try!

If you are going to comment on this newspost, ensure you are respecting the amount of time this coder has put into the site already and this feature. Any disrespect will be met with a reminder or a warning. If you can't share your thoughts nicely and respectfully then refrain from posting.

I kind of like it, and it hasn't slowed down my firefox too much. :P Of course, most of my Aywas friends were brought here from DC, so I don't need to chat with them via this chat... but it's neat nonetheless. Maybe I should go make friends. XD

So I tried this out, its all good and such but it is buggy and a waste of good coding. Honestly, the time and effort should have been in coding the useless things in, like anti freeze potions and such. There are other chats out there, xat, mibbt, or like myself owning their own IRC network. It would have been easier and faster to use jpilot and a link to a private IRC network then to code an onsite chat. I do not need 20 links to notifications on one page, or whose online with my friends. I can just as easily click one time to see who is online. Granted, some people will like this, but there ARE other things that need to get done first and there ARE other ways to chat. I know how hard it is to find a coder, trust me, but as a site owner, I would want to make sure what I have is almost near perfect then to start adding more. You will have a chain reaction with things as you start fixing. First you change this, then the thing you made months ago will have to change in order to adjust to the thing you fixed in the first place, and on and on it goes. Tweak the code you have now, fix the bugs now, and the people will rejoice! You do not always need to be adding new things in to keep the people happy.

This is a really nice feature, but I just wish it would have waited until after scav.

Its causing a LOT of lag and errors now, which makes it hard to access the site. :(

No disrespect, but would it be possible to reverse the coding until the end of the Scav hunt, and have it redone as soon as the hunt ends? I would actually love to see this feature (as long as I can. change it back from dark, I don't love the black very much but it seems to be stuck) just optional. Sometimes I come on Aywas and it would just get me in trouble with my parents. I appreciate the work the programmers have been doing, but wouldn't it have been great if we had been told in advance? I'm sure suggestions regarding this would have been handy in the coding of this. That being said, I would greatly appreciate if the current bugs and glitches were fixed before adding a new feature. Again, I do wish it would be taken out until the end of Scav, but no hard feelings if it isn't. Thank-you for your time, programmers that read this.

I agree that it does not need to be a social network but I like the concept of being able to chat with friends without having to keep mailing back and forward. However if it is going to cause the site to lag even more, crash, and cause bad gateways I would rather keep to the mailing. I also agree that this chat bar should be an optional addition if it becomes permanent.

I didn't mean to be offensive. I just thought it was cool :D I love seeing errors for some odd reason. Besides the fact that Aywas isn't working from it.

Let's think about it logically though. Happy coders = more work. Unhappy coders quit. They do not need us. If more coders end up quitting we will be forced to hire those foreign coders who don't even know English or don't understand how pet sites work and I bet you the site would do worse.

Vicious cycle. Unhappy users treat coders badly, coders quit, users become more unhappy, site dies or is sold. We don't want that so treat the coders well and they'll continue wanting to work for us. The economy might be bad for some jobs but this is not one of them. Coders have a lot of choices so please don't burn the bridges I'm building - it's SO hard to find coders.

I don't think anyone meant for their comments to be 'rude' or a personal insult/attack on the coder. It's just we don't need this. There are tons of bugs/errors on this site that need the coders' attention. Unwanted additions can wait.

"I do not agree with this statement much... the site serves the users, and the users make up the avenue of profit for Slash to pay the coders and also receive profit. It is not really the users' responsibilities to make the coder want to do their job. Encouragement is a bonus for any employee, but technically it comes down to the fact that they are getting paid well for the skills they can put to use. If they do not put the skills to use in a way that satisfies the "customers" (not real customers, but the users that make Aywas the community that it is), it should be the employee's responsibility to adjust how they apply their skills. It sucks that coders may not want to code for us because of user complaints~ but users don't usually complain for no reason. Just food for thought, to those who are continuing to think about this issue." ~~~ That came out wrong, scratch that. The only encouragement I'd need is payment, and doing what I love for others. Let's just say that negative feedback is alright, but giving it so harshly is unnecessary. I'm all for one with people stating their opinions, but, it's not what you say, it's how you say it.
