Copyright

Rules

Okay guys, it's time for another reminder about the copyright rules on Aywas.

For those of you who don't know, there is a copyright board found here.

You must create a thread on this board if you create a design that is based on something that is not your original design. This means if you reference anything that you don't own, you submit it here before you make it. If the copyright has expired on whatever it is you have based your design on, it must be submitted to the board so my team can just check.

It's always been a rule that if something is instantly recognisable as what it was based on, it is against the rules. People seem to have forgotten this little fact, so here's a reminder on that.

I've heard things said like, "Disney isn't going to sue a pet site." Disney will do this, and they have in the past. This is not an excuse, and by saying this and avoiding the copyright panel, you are putting the site at risk. It is their copyright, not Aywas, which is why we have the rules in place to protect Aywas.

If you have any questions, they can most likely be found here.

You can also shoot me a message via pms (or use my snazzy new email - [email protected] :D )

Remember - The use of making designs based of copyright designs is a privilege, not a right you are entitled to. If you break the copyright rules, you put the site at risk and will face a punishment, which may be a permanent ban.

If these copyright rules keep on being broken, there may be discussion of removing the privilege of letting you design things that are not based on your own original work. Please think about your actions in the future so you don't ruin this privilege for the people who do follow the rules.

I hate grumping at you about this, but it is needed.

Thank you!

Okay, this is a stupid question, but do HAs apply to this? Like if I were to make my HA after a certain character? ;| /confused

If you're talking about making original HA custom clothing, then yes, this is covered by the copyright rule. If you're just piecing together the 'normal' HA clothing and hair styles, then I would say no unless it really looks like someone so much it's an exact copy. xD Though I can't see that happening.

I am sorry that this is giving you a hard time. =/ I have posted my copyright thing on there. Although recently I have made premades referring to Harry Potter. (Just the houses- and even then it was just the scarves - coloured the house colours) And the hair styles were very loosly based off from Hermione and Harry's but since they were not recognizable I doubt it would be an issue so I ddin't post them. Should I have?

uhm... is the Copyright forum still viewed by staff then? Because I posted a question there almost a month ago on the 27th April... I know you guys are busy with other things... but there has been zero reaction so far and I'm starting to feel impatient...

I used the forum for the first time for my first custom based off something not mine, just waiting for a yea or nay.
Thanks for clarifying a bit more though.

You probably should have posed the HP stuff through the thread, you can pm me with the images and I can confirm if it was okay right now.

I don't answer things on the thread unless it's a direct question. My panel team creates copyright forms for me, and I answer from there, depending on if I have a large enough consensus on a copyright. I'll go through and look at the thread if it's a direct question one.

I'm sorry it takes so long to get around to replying, I'm trying not to be more than a month behind the latest review but it's difficult since it depends on other people xD

HA items, according to the package, maybe NOT be based off ANYTHING copyrighted - no exceptions. If it is, it gets rejected.
