"Time to conjure up a little magic!"
Magic Quest is a feature that once debuted early in Aywas history. However, the feature was disabled for a period of years as the Adventure system was changed and overhauled. This is a particular site feature which also acts as a game of sorts, sending users out around the world of Ay to activate the magic of ancient places. As a reward, the top magicians every month would receive SP.
It is with great enthusiasm we announce that Magic Quest is finally back!
Some older users may remember Magic Quest while a great many have not seen it at all. Whether you're new or old, you should first acquaint yourself with the Knowledge Base Article that covers the feature in detail.
In order to activate Magic Quest, a user must master the Desert. Once a user has reached this requirement, they must visit the Parthenon, where they will be prompted as to whether they'd like to activate the feature.
After that, you're ready for questing!
When you accept a quest at the Parthenon, you will be shown a greyed-out image with a name. The objective is to find the location and activate it. Magic Locations are hidden within the "cities" of the Adventure regions. In order to access these cities, you must master the region it belongs to.
Once at the city, you must find the location needed for your quest by 'clicking' on it. When prompted, it will ask you if you which to activate the location's magic which will cost you some of your "Magic". Magic is a resource which regenerates over time. Select 'yes' and return to the Parthenon for your reward and a new quest!
The more magic locations you activate in your quests, the higher your score for the month will be. In addition, your magic level will increase and it will also increase the amount of Magic you have.
As a small note, Magic may still receive a few tweaks based on feedback and issues that may pop up. So if you encounter an issue, please post your findings on this thread.
But before you go running off, apprentices, we still have some other small announcements!
As you may have noticed, our city locations are now making their glorious return as well to Aywas. You can view the available cities at the City Hub. In the past, the cities only worked to benefit the Magic Quest feature. Going forward, the cities will play a much larger (albeit not-yet-fully-coded) role.
You will find that the cities will also host Gardening and Fishing. While these are not yet activated, you will find that new and returning-old features may be making their appearance in the city hubs. This also include new cities for our currently city-less Ara regions (and with them, new Magic Locations)!
In order to access a region's city (and thus gain access to its features like Magic Quest), you will need to master the region in Adventure. So get out there and adventure!
Finally, we have the infamous Book of Completion. Users read this book to automatically complete a region of explore, but it would also ban them from Adventuring for a week. Due to a rollback error years ago, the consequence of this book was removed in order to grant a grace period for users to re-master regions they had once already mastered but had loss due to the rollback.
As that issue is now long-since gone, the book is being put back into it's original coding. However, due to the fact that many users were not aware of this original punishment and use, there will be a continuing grace period to use this book without incurring the adventure-ban. After 11:59 PM on July 12th, this book will now once again ban users from Adventure for one week upon using it.
So whether you plan to use the book or master adventure the old fashioned way, get out there and master those regions!

Concerning Recent Bugs

I am quite sure now many of you have encounter this dreaded bug by now that prevents you from accessing a page:
"Parse error: syntax error, unexpected end of file in some file on line some line in file"
After the software upgrade on the server, the template system coded back during the site's inception has suddenly decided it wants to be lazy. Errors, such as this, is being caused by the templating system which, at times, just stop generating complied files which are used by the site to output the HTML (the stuff you see). When we first started encountering this issue, we figured it was due the file transfer we did before upgrading the server. At clearing such files, the affected pages did work again, but now new files are not being complied correctly.
I have no idea why the template system is doing this and after trying to resolve the issue, I decided it is best to replace this system with something different; something more reliable. We have already started rolling out this new system with our admin backend, but it is still buggy due to how some of our template files were coded. The template files are being converted to work with the new system (around 900 files) and I need to make sure they all will work once we make the live switch.
I want to apologize for all of this. This upgrades, while necessary, has had many adverse effects with the site that hasn't been fun for anyone. I am going to get this templating system live sometime this week, but in the mean time if you encountering any pages doing this, keep reporting it (or if it happens to be the message page again, drop a comment here).
Around midnight (July 6th), we plan on disabling the site for about five minutes as preform some quick work on the database. When the time comes for it, I will make another announcement indicating the exact time.

Greetings and Salutations! Slashbot here again with what I would like to say is good news... however we are here today to talk about a very, very serious matter.
DW (#20) would like to spread awareness about Brain Cancer. A terrible disease that can effect anyone, at any point of their life. An estimated 680,000+ people in the US alone, are living with a primary brain or central nervous system tumor diagnosis.
What is a Brain Tumor?
A brain tumor is an abnormal growth
of tissue in the brain or central spine that can disrupt proper brain function. Doctors refer to a tumor based on where the tumor cells originated, and whether they are cancerous (malignant) or not (benign).
There is over 120 different types of brain and central nervous system tumors, they can form in different areas and sizes for everyone. The location and type will also effect how this horrible disease effects the person. It can cause recurring headaches, issues with vision, seizures, short-term memory loss, and so many others, including Death.
Which, unfortunately, is what brings me to you today.
While the Slashbot Queue was in an idle state, DW(#20) lost someone very near and dear to her heart, her mother. 'Dizzy' Diane, Dizzy Di as she was also called, had been diagnosed with Brain Cancer, and tragically lost the battle. In her honor, and in the honor of all of those who have been lost and who are still fighting, we are proud to release a new item to the site today.
The Magic Marker. This item, while in design it may seem an odd way to honor those who's lives have been touched by Cancer, this item will allow you to turn bred pets into memorials. With this marker you may add 10% Edits to a Gen 2+.
As everyone knows, with great power comes great responsibility, so with this item there is some rules.
-You cannot use a Magic Marker on Gen1 pets.
-You cannot remove edits.
-You may only add edits to pets.
-Edits added must be 10% or under. Anything above 10% will be rejected.
-You may not add edits originating from any pets in the pet's parental lineage, including direct parents. (Including if the parent has a Witch Hat, you cannot redraw the same style Witch Hat)
-This item will not work on Mutants or Derps. unless they have been made breedable
We do ask that users Submit their potential designs to the Crystal Check before they are submitted to the Custom Queue, to ensure all rules have been followed appropriately. Make sure that you link your pet that you will be Overlaying, or your Check will be dismissed.

I am sure that most of you are aware of how proactive Aywas is towards fundraising, so if you guessed that this item had more to it, you were absolutely correct.
For the next 2 weeks, until July 15th the Magic Marker will stock in the USD Shop for $14, and at the end of the two weeks, Aywas will be donating half of the profits.
Where are these funds going?
The National Brain Tumor Society is a wonderful organization that has helped so many people, and so many families, who have been effected by cancer. We strongly recommend that users visit their site and learn what they are about, and more about Brain Cancer in general.
Once the two weeks are over, the Magic Marker will be moved to the GP Shop, however it will receive a substantial price raise, so please, if you can spare it give to something that can truly use the help.
We would like to thank DW (#20) and extend our hugs to everyone who has had their lives touched by cancer. Those of you who have lost loved ones, those of you who are helping your loved ones get though this, those who have defeated the disease, our prayers and our thoughts are with all of you.

Crystal Check:
Crystal Check is working on the staff end, and we're back on track with the listings that accumulated while we were unable to access the checks!
I'd also like to take the opportunity to remind people that if you get your design checked, please link it in the Notes section - this guarantees your design will be processed faster as it will not need to be re-checked, and helps the queues as a whole move forward at a better rate.
"Grandfathering":
After extensive deliberations amongst staff, it has been decided that we need to change the grandfathering system. This has been hugely debated across two administrations now, and there are a lot of factors to finally pushing forward with this change, including the unreliability of the old forum threads (due to long deleted images, and unclear listings) and the recent changes in modifiers which has lowered the percentage of several design sets.
It has been decided that we will honour old checks by Graymare that originate from the Crystal Check feature, only. Please note that designs I have already accepted during my administration, which were grandfathered, are on record and will still be honoured if a new crystal check is not linked in the Note section - however any that have not gone through myself, or crystal check, will not be.
If you can provide a thread-based check from Skitty, where the image is intact and the response is a clear decision, then I will still be accepting those until July 7th. Please note that at this time we are only accepting them if they are from Skitty, and not one of the helpers. I apologise for this further inconvenience.
We know that this will be distressing to some users as they still have designs or PSDs that are several years old, but as grandfathered sets are an extremely rare occurrence when running the queues I am hoping it won't affect too many people.
Baby Linearts:
For a very long time people have been wanting to see the "original four" hybrids allow edits. After talks we decided there's nothing stopping that - so we will be retiring the Pacifier, and adding the Quetzal, Kyre, Paleo and Griffin to the Baby Bottle trio!
Those of you with Pacifiers, don't despair - in the Annoying Item Bazaar you can trade in your Pacifier for a Metal Baby Bottle, giving you the option to keep it as a collectable, or still make that adorable custom you always wanted!
