Black Friday Warning

Site Update

This is a warning that the page for the Exotic Pot will be enabled, but you may not claim anything. If you attempt to claim a pet with the April Showers Exotic Egg, you will receive a temporary, one month ban from the site, the pet will be removed from your account, and your item will not be refunded. The link will not be provided in this post to ensure no one gets click happy before reading, but you're allowed to look but not touch if you already know where it is. 😊

Can I ask, why the overkill? "the pet will be removed from your account, and your item will not be refunded" That's totally normal and fine, but "temporary, one month ban from the site" Seems excessive.

Agreed with Mars Treats! (#128). "you will have action taken against your account" would have seemed less threatening.

I agree with Mars Treats! (#128), this is overkill. Why not just disable the ability to claim the pets until the sale? Then you could have linked the post without any cryptic "if you already know where it is" comments. Either you want players to see them or you don't. This is very dramatic lol.

It may seem dramatic or excessive, but we've unfortunately had incidents in the past to where being heavy-handed was insisted by the head admin.

We had the page disabled, but the artists weren't able to attach the PSDs onto their pets while it was. We needed to enable the page for them, but we couldn't do so without addressing it in case someone went onto the page and attempted using the old egg to claim a pet. This was essentially a middle ground to allow the artists to do what they needed to while we waited for the page to be coded. The link hasn't changed so we can't really stop people from looking if they want to, so it was better to go ahead and address that they could, and they would have (theoretically) read the warning before it.

Gotta get one of each. ;D

Lacia (#25044) - I am not disagreeing that heavy action be taken for the offense, it's the wording of it as a threat that seems unprofessional and unwelcoming. I believe you can achieve saying the same thing in a non-threating way yet conveying the seriousness. You can make people become afraid of even looking for fear of doing something wrong. It's very anxiety inducing in all honesty. It's the position of staff to make the events welcoming for everyone with clear outlines defined.

Why not have set up a preview in a forum post instead if it's an technical issue. That way the public can't access and no need for overkill news posts. Just again feel like there were other options that could be explored in the future.
