Drinking Game: Discussion and Poll

Site Update

As part of our addressing Breedings and the hurdles that are preventing us from making headway on clearing out the queues, the topic of the Drinking Game came up.

As you may or may not be aware, all the pets on the score board at the end of the month will be randomly paired together and bred. This means every month 10 new breedings are generated - and while that doesn't sound like much, when you have trouble finding artists who are interested in the type of breeding mix the game generates, the queue piles up. Many long standing members will know that getting the drinking game breedings completed has been an uphill struggle from the game's inception.

As such we have come to the hard decision to make changes to the game - but as this is a big change, we want to share the discussion and the decision with you. After a lot of conversations we have narrowed it down to two possibilities that we feel offer the best results.

Option One
The queue continues to generate breedings, but from June onwards they will now go to the Scribble queue.

While you may pause and question if diverting from one queue to another is a smart idea, the Scribble queue is at a low enough level that injecting 10 new breedings a month would not be unwieldy, especially as the team has been taking on new members recently.

Pets created from the Drinking Game would be eligible as Silver Species Founders without the permission of the other pet owner's permission - so you would need to be certain you are happy to share your pet's markings and edits, with potentially more than one other custom.

Option Two
The queue gets a unique unbreedable genus and from June onwards the top 10 will receive a custom maker.

1-3 = Gold Custom Maker
4-6 = Blue Custom Maker
7-10 = Bronze Custom Maker

The genus would be unbreedable to ensure the rarity of the genus is not compromised. The maker would not be account bound, so it would be possible to sell, trade, or gift the custom maker as the winning user wishes.

Details of the genus are not available at this time, as we would likely try to poll what type of creature people would be interested in.

Bonus Question
As it stands, users may enter as many pets as they wish to into the Drinking Game. In theory, should you have enough alcohol, one person could hold all top 10 spots (though I feel it is important to note that this has never happened!)

Do you believe that the Drinking Game should limit each account to enter only one pet, opposed to entering as many as you wish?

We hope to hear your thoughts about these changes, and especially the bonus question.

Option Two: The queue gets a unique unbreedable genus and the top 10 will receive a custom maker

Why don't we leave them as eggnog breeding, but release a cheap/free scribble add-on that only works with eggnog/blind date breeding and moves the breeding into the scribble queue? People can then apply the add-on as desired, even on non-drinking game breedings. I play the drinking game often so I wouldn't mind some of mine being scribbles, but not all of them.

*counts* okay, so I have 26 eggnog breedings in queue going back to July 2018 so I can see the backlog. This actually doesn't bother me as much as the slashbot/ slashbot stuffing backlog.

As some one who has bough a mini fridge from the Mayday sale I'm hoping that Option 1 the scribble breeding is chosen. I'd feel kinda the purchase wasn't worth it if basically the reward was oh we get an item and have to provide our own art for it.

Even if you want them to be smudged, unbreedable scribbles it would still be better than a custom maker we would have to pay to have art made for.

I don't like either option. I'm not a big fan of scribbles so I would never choose that option. I prefer my pets to be breedable for the edits and as far as custom makers goes I like so many have a backlog of unused custom makers that already go mostly unused because i have to pay someone to actually make the pet for me since I don't have the skills needed to make them myself. Maybe if option two wins we could limit it's breedability to a third parent only in silver/sketch/ scribble breedings. This way the edits still get to be used and the genus stays rare.

As bitter as I am about what happened to the orbweaver — I still don’t understand why we can make edited orbkin, but not the SCC without wasted art efforts — an unbreedable genus feels even worse. For exclusivity, why not put the genus in the same rarity category as Xaocs or the grand hybrids to limit breeding?

In any case, for the bonus question, I’m in favor of one pet per account per month.

I kind of glanced over the first few pages, so this might have been suggested. But why not make the second option have the same breeding rules as some of the most rare genus on site? Make it so that even through rbc it can never produce a baby on its lines basically, so people could have fun doing scribbles/sketch/pbc/bc/etc while not devaluing the lines? Or even mirror xaoc breeding rules, since even with the 1% possible through rbc they haven't really devalued.

I don't like scribbles, so I voted for the second option. I'm not keen on either, but please no scribbles:(

I have another idea though, about helping to clean up the current queue: I enter the drinking contest every month, and have 23 breedings as a result. Sometimes I don't like the pet that I'm paired with, so if there was a way to cancel and therefore 'trade' that breeding for something else, such as GP/SP or an exclusive item, I would be happy to do that.

First option, I think it will draw more people to it if they get something they can breed. It will keep the items like mini fridge and alcohol in the market, and not decrease their value.

a rare un-breedable pet really doesn't have much value as breeding is a huge component of this game. if it can breed but with a rare/$$ item then I'd definitely vote for that. would the psd have some preset marks/colors? I know a lot of users may not be able to color the psd, and a game where the babies were made for you to DIY may cause some grief. Not everyone has the know how or computer power to fire up a art program.

no limit on pets if someone has enough resources to spend on multiple pets let them, an alcohol sink if you will.

Why not have both options? At the end of the round, winning users could choose option Scribbe or option Custom. Their choice wouldn’t have any impact on the other user (eg, if A chooses Scribble, B’s dragon is still used, to make the scribble child for A, even if they (B) choose the custom maker)

:)

As a few others have suggested, making the Option Two genus have a similar rarity as the Xaoc with similar breeding outcomes seems like a reasonable idea?
