Drinking Game: Discussion and Poll

Site Update

As part of our addressing Breedings and the hurdles that are preventing us from making headway on clearing out the queues, the topic of the Drinking Game came up.

As you may or may not be aware, all the pets on the score board at the end of the month will be randomly paired together and bred. This means every month 10 new breedings are generated - and while that doesn't sound like much, when you have trouble finding artists who are interested in the type of breeding mix the game generates, the queue piles up. Many long standing members will know that getting the drinking game breedings completed has been an uphill struggle from the game's inception.

As such we have come to the hard decision to make changes to the game - but as this is a big change, we want to share the discussion and the decision with you. After a lot of conversations we have narrowed it down to two possibilities that we feel offer the best results.

Option One
The queue continues to generate breedings, but from June onwards they will now go to the Scribble queue.

While you may pause and question if diverting from one queue to another is a smart idea, the Scribble queue is at a low enough level that injecting 10 new breedings a month would not be unwieldy, especially as the team has been taking on new members recently.

Pets created from the Drinking Game would be eligible as Silver Species Founders without the permission of the other pet owner's permission - so you would need to be certain you are happy to share your pet's markings and edits, with potentially more than one other custom.

Option Two
The queue gets a unique unbreedable genus and from June onwards the top 10 will receive a custom maker.

1-3 = Gold Custom Maker
4-6 = Blue Custom Maker
7-10 = Bronze Custom Maker

The genus would be unbreedable to ensure the rarity of the genus is not compromised. The maker would not be account bound, so it would be possible to sell, trade, or gift the custom maker as the winning user wishes.

Details of the genus are not available at this time, as we would likely try to poll what type of creature people would be interested in.

Bonus Question
As it stands, users may enter as many pets as they wish to into the Drinking Game. In theory, should you have enough alcohol, one person could hold all top 10 spots (though I feel it is important to note that this has never happened!)

Do you believe that the Drinking Game should limit each account to enter only one pet, opposed to entering as many as you wish?

We hope to hear your thoughts about these changes, and especially the bonus question.

To be honest scribble babies make more sense for a drunken breeding xD But I am personally disappointed about the change. I spend a lot of money getting alcohol just for breeding in the game. For it to change seems... cheap. Neither option really feels like what the drinking game was supposed to be. I feel like the next thing you are gonna change is pendants since they have a consistent baby yield as well. The breeding is one of the only reasons I stay on the site. I have put a lot of money into the site and I am scared. I am scared to see where things will be in a year let alone 3-5 :(

Or what if maybe the babies were metal only, no edits? Although I can see that could still potentially take more time than scribble babies, and a lot of other people seem keen on the idea already. Personally I'd prefer metals over scribbles, but I've never dared attempt the drinking game so my opinion shouldn't really count for much XD;; Also just mentioning that, because when looking at some of the really old BC breedings, I kind of miss how much simpler they seemed back then. Or, it could just be all the add-ons now that are making me /think/ it was simpler anyway.

I don't really like either option as the scribble style isn't that appealing to me and the custom makers I'd run into the same problem I have now with all my built up maker items... unless I want a bleh metal colored by me I'd have to pay an artist for an interesting pet which defeats the purpose of doing the game to get a breeding instead. Basically I'd be paying in alcohol for the item and then in gp or bp for someone to create the pet and so double paying on a feature whose whole appeal was NOT having to do the art myself.

I know a lot of people are feeling like its not worth it, but look at it this way:

Eggnog breedings, in queue, you may receive in 2~3 years as currently stands. We dont have the artists interested enough to take on that queue like with most of our edit intensive queues. This change is to help relieve that queue as well as give users a quicker end result. There are a lot of complaints about the breedings sitting there forever unless you do predicts.

Things need to change or the site will continue to be in a stale state with no real movement, effectively removing any reason for anyone to support the site.

I voted for Scribble, as it keeps in essence of the site doing the breeding, as giving out an item that requires a user to create it will likely lower the value of the game. I, personally, have a long queue of makers to use... Scribble queue also moves relatively quick and gives a variety of styles to make it interesting. They're drunk babies, Scribble makes sense and can add a sense of fun!

How about this idea: the alcohol based breedings could jump around to different queues as loads change. Each month the breeding would go to the lowest queue. It would simulate intoxicated couples wandering around in a hotel filled with artists... only half aware of where they are going...

Rohvannyc (#21192) That's usually the Scribble queues anyway ;]

On another note, would it help at all if eggnog breedings had slightly less edits? I'm looking at one I have and the examples in the knowledge base, and they seem SO complex.

I honestly adore the drinking game, but it's the essentially eggnog breeding that I look forward to, the ability to breed between any genus or even unbreedable pets...

...but I hate scribbles.

And I dislike the idea of an only unbreedable SCC as well since most site SCCs just aren't vry appealing?

So I guess the real question is: Would these changes be permanent and would we have any imnput/voting on the SCC base? Because as it stands I'm just not likely to play anymore if it's just these two hardlines?

So personally I don't largely like either option but I understand the need to not make the babies take forever to make (if I want eggnog/blind date babies I'll have to just buy eggnogs/blind dates by the looks of it). Here's an interesting thought though; why not do both options? To elaborate there is two monthly consumption events; the drinking and eating competition. The drinking one I feel is the one that garners more interest mostly because you get the breeding plus SP while the eating competition only gives out SP (so the eating competition might be unknown to some players). Perhaps one option could be attached to the drinking competition while the other is for the eating competition. This could bring more interest back to the eating competition unless there is something I'm not aware of to make this option undesirable.
