Drinking Game: Discussion and Poll

Site Update

As part of our addressing Breedings and the hurdles that are preventing us from making headway on clearing out the queues, the topic of the Drinking Game came up.

As you may or may not be aware, all the pets on the score board at the end of the month will be randomly paired together and bred. This means every month 10 new breedings are generated - and while that doesn't sound like much, when you have trouble finding artists who are interested in the type of breeding mix the game generates, the queue piles up. Many long standing members will know that getting the drinking game breedings completed has been an uphill struggle from the game's inception.

As such we have come to the hard decision to make changes to the game - but as this is a big change, we want to share the discussion and the decision with you. After a lot of conversations we have narrowed it down to two possibilities that we feel offer the best results.

Option One
The queue continues to generate breedings, but from June onwards they will now go to the Scribble queue.

While you may pause and question if diverting from one queue to another is a smart idea, the Scribble queue is at a low enough level that injecting 10 new breedings a month would not be unwieldy, especially as the team has been taking on new members recently.

Pets created from the Drinking Game would be eligible as Silver Species Founders without the permission of the other pet owner's permission - so you would need to be certain you are happy to share your pet's markings and edits, with potentially more than one other custom.

Option Two
The queue gets a unique unbreedable genus and from June onwards the top 10 will receive a custom maker.

1-3 = Gold Custom Maker
4-6 = Blue Custom Maker
7-10 = Bronze Custom Maker

The genus would be unbreedable to ensure the rarity of the genus is not compromised. The maker would not be account bound, so it would be possible to sell, trade, or gift the custom maker as the winning user wishes.

Details of the genus are not available at this time, as we would likely try to poll what type of creature people would be interested in.

Bonus Question
As it stands, users may enter as many pets as they wish to into the Drinking Game. In theory, should you have enough alcohol, one person could hold all top 10 spots (though I feel it is important to note that this has never happened!)

Do you believe that the Drinking Game should limit each account to enter only one pet, opposed to entering as many as you wish?

We hope to hear your thoughts about these changes, and especially the bonus question.

Option Two: The queue gets a unique unbreedable genus and the top 10 will receive a custom maker

bd84 (#2783) The rules would still be the same :) So don't breed anything with rules, anything that is unbreedable by site order (apoc unuses) cannot be bred.

To make this genus completely unbreedable would put it at severe disadvantage and well.... Not very appealing to go through the hassle to gather the alcohol and then be rewarded with something worth less than your effort? (I'm thinking of crumb pets here or pets treated with unbreedable potion)

I feel like scribbles would embody the essence of drunken shenanigans. It would be really fun!

Would people who have already won previous drinking games be able to switch their breeding over to a scribble if they wanted? If this option wins of course.

As Scribble Dad I have to endorse putting them in my queue, slurp slurp

That's definitely something we can bring up for discussion! C:

I just had an idea. Instead of making a new Genus, how about awarding Silver Crystal Crumbs, Gold Crystal Crumbs, and Blue Crystal Crumbs to the top 10 winners? I'd actually be in favor of awarding only the Silver Crystal Crumbs, but I didn't think that option would go over too well with staff. Those things are pretty expensive! Maybe not in the bigger scheme of things, but SO MANY people put PSDs in Pumpkins & Eggs that only fit under Silver makers! Now, that would be something that interests me! I've got so many PSDs that are Silver - and I haven't made a single one of them! But, I'd have a fighting chance if we could actually when the Silver Crystal Crumbs.

We've decided that yes, if the Scribble option wins, then users will be able to move their current breedings to the Scribble queue.

It will require PMing me with consent from both pet owners, the breeding ID, the month and year that those pets won the game for that breeding, and the pet IDs when they hatch.

But yes, totally doable c:

DelennDax7 (#67503) - Crumbs are already as cheap as they can be, and we are not looking for alternate ways to release them into the system.

I agree with Alana's (Alana (#70812)) comment (on page 2) in regards to the limits on the game. I believe you could get more people playing the game, probably not at such high point levels, but it would allow for people who've always been interested to try it out, but don't have a serious hoard if alcohol to stand more a chance at placing.

I also support the scribble babies option. While I personally don't care much for them myself, I think that they are perfect for the feel of the drinking game.

I'm personally not a fan of either option. :/ I would say that keeping it a breeding is more fair, IMO. The only reason I ever entered was to get the eggnog breeding. I get my eggnogs done during PPP. I don't care for most scribbles and I don't like unbreedables, so with either option I'll most likely not be participating any longer (or even more rarely)... guess I can always sell my alcohol XD

That being said, I don't think there should be a limit or cool down. It's not that hard to place so I don't see any reason for it.
