Egg Field Notice

Events

Hey guys,

We love to see that everyone is enjoying the egg field but we want to have a quick word with you all about the messages being put in.

While we're respectful of everyone's different religions, faiths, and belief systems, we must ask that you keep them out of the egg field. Not everyone will share the same beliefs as you, and there are many who have had traumatic experiences within religious groups, so while your messages may be meant in a light-hearted or good intended way, the people those messages can get to may not read them in that way.

We will not be taking actions against people who have already put in religious messages, unless the messages themselves cross a line or rule that we do not allow, but we do request that you do not put more in.

Thank you for listening, and happy egg hunting to all!

----------------------

It's been requested a few times that I add this to the news post:

From the Terms of Service:
"The following topics are considered to be mature [M]: politics, religion, sex, sexual innuendo or jokes, artistic nudity, sexuality, self harm or other such behavior or thoughts and swearing."

These subjects should be limited to forum threads that are indicated as M/mature in the title, and as such are not appropriate to be shared in the egg field as no such indication can be made prior to the egg being selected.

I hope that helps to further clarify matters =)

Eve (#2775) , understandable. I really don't want them gone honestly. I just was worried about an outcome with the least upset people I guess. This blew up so fast so much that I just guess I was worried people won't be quick to forget the ill feelings from this.I hope that regardless of decisions made that we end up with an outcome that at least works for at least most parties involved.

Thank you for taking the time to read what I had to say, and responding! :3

There we go, added to the news post, so I hope this helps everyone more!

ChaosAzeroth (#43055) - I understand your concern, this certainly got more of a reaction than I was expecting! I think I wasn't careful enough in my wording and I will strive to do better should a similar situation arise again in the future. I think, though, that we've all learnt something from this and the rest of the event should attract less negative reaction - or we can hope ^^;

... Too late I realise that the latest request from Bear probably meant on the egg page - which I will definitely inquire about as a possibility XD;

Hey guys, did you know that before it was hijacked by Christianity, Easter was a Pagan celebration of sex and fertility? What do you think the bunnies and eggs symbolize? Does that make our egg patch inappropriate?

We really shouldn't over complicate things. We all just need to be respectful of everybody else's feelings and beliefs. Don't be offended if someone greets you a happy Easter in passing, or if someone prefers not to greet you that way. Don't force your views on other people, but also don't rip someone else apart for a innocent passing comment regarding religion. Respect is a double-edged sword.

I appreciate the evenhanded view that the admins have decided to maintain. As a gentle reminder, Terms of Service for website are not censorship. Aywas is (thankfully) not a government entity and the owners have the right to run it as they like.

That said, the original issue was never to say that wishing someone a happy Easter was against the TOS, as that is a simple holiday name. It was the posts that referred to specific religions and religious concepts that are considered mature subjects and cannot appear in the egg messages.

Personally, I don't think we need to get rid of messages in eggs/pumpkins/presents, because I have more faith in the general maturity of my fellow Aywasians.

I do think it would be awesome to make uniquely Ayways holidays though, as part of our developing culture. It would make play more immersive and I love the idea!

Personally I think it would be best to just get rid of the message system. Also, I like Ayster.

Voting for 'Ayster!' ^_^ Personally, I'm fine with everyone expressing their own religion, but I can totally understand that religion would be classed as an [M] topic, and that some people may feel uncomfortable with religious messages. Let's just all respect one another, which is what religion SHOULD be about anyway. Happy Ayster all! <3
