Egg Field Notice

Events

Hey guys,

We love to see that everyone is enjoying the egg field but we want to have a quick word with you all about the messages being put in.

While we're respectful of everyone's different religions, faiths, and belief systems, we must ask that you keep them out of the egg field. Not everyone will share the same beliefs as you, and there are many who have had traumatic experiences within religious groups, so while your messages may be meant in a light-hearted or good intended way, the people those messages can get to may not read them in that way.

We will not be taking actions against people who have already put in religious messages, unless the messages themselves cross a line or rule that we do not allow, but we do request that you do not put more in.

Thank you for listening, and happy egg hunting to all!

----------------------

It's been requested a few times that I add this to the news post:

From the Terms of Service:
"The following topics are considered to be mature [M]: politics, religion, sex, sexual innuendo or jokes, artistic nudity, sexuality, self harm or other such behavior or thoughts and swearing."

These subjects should be limited to forum threads that are indicated as M/mature in the title, and as such are not appropriate to be shared in the egg field as no such indication can be made prior to the egg being selected.

I hope that helps to further clarify matters =)

As a devout Christian, I have no issue with this rule. I try to keep my religious side offline, unless someone directly addresses me about it in a private conversation.

And, for the record, most "Christian" holidays, including Christmas and Easter, are stolen from Pagan celebrations anyway, and have a dateless biblical event attached. Jesus wasn't even born in winter!

I know, I just can't think of any way that this is going to be resolved peacefully with everyone being happy.

I understand both sides to some extent or another, and can't blame anyone for feeling the way they do. So what can we do really? I honestly hope someone can answer that, because honestly it's probably because I'm a baby but my heart just hurts at this whole thing. I want to see everyone at least satisfied, but I'm not sure that can happen.

But seriously, new names for holidays is a fantastic idea! I’ve always felt like it broke immersion super hard when our earthly real-life events and stuff gets put into our original fantasy games.

Leovant, your name ideas are fantastic 83

ChaosAzeroth (#43055) Absolutely I see why you say this, and it does warrant discussion. I think... maybe just when opening the field, put forth a reminder of what can and cannot be in the patch? I don't know, it's a tricky situation. I really respect your point of view on this, and reasoning.

Aylentimes too, instead of Valentines. Just a little further separation.

Instead of Easter: Equinox, or Ayquinox/Aycinox. Or Aranox. Ara needs some love, too.

Leovant (#35187) - I am a sucker for combining words to make new ones, and Ofaldetch sounds amazing when I say it aloud XD

ChaosAzeroth (#43055) - I suppose we could, but it would be a shame to have to. I think next year we'll just get ahead of it and remind people about what they should avoid putting in, instead of chasing after the horse once it's bolted. I think that was my mistake this year, not thinking to go "oh remind folks that-" so everyone knows where they stand ahead of time =)

Worst case scenario, send out pets in eggs with a message in their name to mail you for a free PSD? “Message 35187 for a PSD!” the Agender Crystal Fens, for example? ♥️

Discrimination would be Aywas making a news post that no christian topics could be talked about anywhere on the site, while allowing all the others still. This news post is nowhere near discrimination, and did a decent job at making it a blanket statement to remind users that religious messages aren't appropriate.

You can feel that people should just get over it, but that's completely negating what those people are feeling. If it doesn't bother you to see the messages, let the ones who are bothered get what they need. It's really not too much to ask at all to keep things like that out of messages, especially considering that they shouldn't have been there in the first place anyway per rules set up a long time ago. Users just seem to need that reminder fairly regularly, and hopefully it will be enforced a bit more now.

Also keep in mind, as has been mentioned, a large amount of christian holidays are actually "stolen" pagan/etc holidays that were used as a way to pull in non-christians to the religion. If you really want to claim there wouldn't be the holiday if you remove christianity (since that has been the focus of several comments, vs the blanket statement of any religion), you really need to look back at the history of a lot of our common holidays and see where they actually started. There very much would be an easter type celebration without christianity, it just might be under a different name. Christianity is far from the only religion (or non-religious group of people) that celebrates something similar to easter even now, and it feels pretty unfortunate that people would try and claim that's all there is to the holiday.

A lot of us just want to enjoy holidays without having religion thrown around in messages quite often, and some years it has been quite often. Many people have been very badly hurt by one religion or another, and Aywas has always been a good place to escape that kind of pain and negativity. A place where you can control when you see religious topics, for the most part, and choose to engage in that type of topic or not. Keeping that out of messages just helps keep Aywas as an escape, which is basically what any game aims to be.

May I suggest adding a note by the text entry area to not include potentially [M] content and a link to where people can find what qualifies?
