Egg Field Notice

Events

Hey guys,

We love to see that everyone is enjoying the egg field but we want to have a quick word with you all about the messages being put in.

While we're respectful of everyone's different religions, faiths, and belief systems, we must ask that you keep them out of the egg field. Not everyone will share the same beliefs as you, and there are many who have had traumatic experiences within religious groups, so while your messages may be meant in a light-hearted or good intended way, the people those messages can get to may not read them in that way.

We will not be taking actions against people who have already put in religious messages, unless the messages themselves cross a line or rule that we do not allow, but we do request that you do not put more in.

Thank you for listening, and happy egg hunting to all!

----------------------

It's been requested a few times that I add this to the news post:

From the Terms of Service:
"The following topics are considered to be mature [M]: politics, religion, sex, sexual innuendo or jokes, artistic nudity, sexuality, self harm or other such behavior or thoughts and swearing."

These subjects should be limited to forum threads that are indicated as M/mature in the title, and as such are not appropriate to be shared in the egg field as no such indication can be made prior to the egg being selected.

I hope that helps to further clarify matters =)

Kyria [HIATUS] (#31172) i felt ridiculously uncomfortable with the eggs as an agnostic person. well wishes are fine and all, but the eggs almost made it feel like shoving a message down my throat, which i've had happen over christianity many, MANY times before. if it makes people with different beliefs uncomfortable, why should it be given special treatment and allowed? that's actually discriminatory and would apply to any religious messages here.

please stop with the attitude. i've dealt with a lot of bullshit from overzealous christians in the past, and while the messages are probably of good intent, it makes me feel dreadful. spamming the comments section with complaints like this just... isn't a good look, and this kinda stuff enables the whole 'shoving religion down your throat' behavior of super devout christians (and other religious folk, but it's an epidemic among christians particularly). on the other hand, it's sad that whoever posts messages like these in eggs end up being scrutinized for intent because of the christians who shove things down peoples' throats. the bad christians give good ones a stigma to deal with that they don't deserve.

I thankfully haven't seen any of these messages in the eggs, but yeah, no thanks.

Technically per ToS, you can't put religious messages in eggs.

The following topics are considered to be mature [M]: politics, religion, sex, sexual innuendo or jokes, artistic nudity, sexuality, self harm or other such behavior or thoughts and swearing.

Right or wrong, not getting into it. Just wanted to drop that here.

Unless it is a ridiculous down your throat message I don't see a point in censoring it. That is on the same level as stuff like not posting messages about the LGBT community because someone would get offended. (I FULLY support LGBT its just a popular topic where people have sensitivity). I myself have been forced MANY times to listen to the religious stuff and don't agree with the forcefulness of it but I'm not going to get butthurt if someone posts a bible message to me. In this world you really need to shake things off and let it go... it really isn't hard to ignore it unless they are forceful.

Not going to get into what’s been beaten to death in the comments, but if y’all are looking for names for the seasonal events I’m sure the community would love to contribute and help out!

Aymas, Aylentine’s, Spooktober. Those are a few good ones I’ve heard and I think the community could come up with some pretty dynamic names and would enjoy being part of that process if it hasn’t already been finished. Eve (#2775)

Zen&Scar [Gone] (#2496) - I have to agree I love Aylentines, I use that every year XD It also works nicely with the Aymas that we already use - we've just got to extend that to the pages and things like the gift tree and so on, I think it's pretty solidly used by almost all of us now otherwise. Not sold on Spooktober, but I do like it?

I think you're definitely right that we could open a thread for ideas and see what people come up with and maybe do a vote on the ones we see the most support for, and that we like the sound of. I'll bring it up to staff and see what they think - I think most of them are creeping off to bed right now but I'll make sure to bring it up over the weekend when we'll be able to talk together properly ^^

The post is literally about not mentioning any M topics in your Egg messages. If someone asked you to stop putting pics of spiders or small holes because people have severe phobias of them, are you really going to argue about how you aren't affected and how not everyone feels the same?

No! You say "yeah that's fair enough" and stop all together.

If you're offended or hurt by this post, how do you think users who recieved religious messages feel?

Religious topics are rated M and therefore not allowed outside designated forums. That's it. Nothing else.

And that's the tea.

Isn't this also a yearly issue? I seem to recall posts like this almost every year reminding not to use [M] topics, like religion in eggs?

It's not Anti-religion to blanket coat all religions, this isn't targeting one at all?
I'm Agnostic, I still celebrate religion centered holidays, many that fall on the same timetables, but just go by different names. The new post doesn't target "one" if it did they'd be saying X and Y and Z.. ect. I can think of at least -3- of them that come at this time of the year.

I can understand why some would be upset, but I also understand the rules of the site never allowed this in the first place and it was very nice of staff to remind users, as a whole to just, make sure we keep the egg field everyone friendly, rather then jumping right to the consequences since it's in the TOS.

Eve (#2775) Zen&Scar [Gone] (#2496) Instead of Spooktober -- Harvest, Soultide. I also suggest something else-

Ofaldetch (or Omentide) - combining all four apocalypse unus for it, since it'd be cool to tie in the npcs to the world even more, and it getting a start as a holiday commemorating when the unuses first came or rampaged would be a good barrier between life and death, and a historic alternate history to halloween instead of being something that has basis in real world religious practices (samhain, then hallowtide). It could even explain trick or treating, in having people 'invade' in force and demanding tithe as a kind of game, thousands of years later.

Eve (#2775) , messages are my absolute favorite part, and I know I'm probably going to get hate for this, but maybe we should just get rid of them altogether in eggs/pumpkins. Not everyone uses them anyway, and it just seems to be the center of the issues.
