Egg Field Notice

Events

Hey guys,

We love to see that everyone is enjoying the egg field but we want to have a quick word with you all about the messages being put in.

While we're respectful of everyone's different religions, faiths, and belief systems, we must ask that you keep them out of the egg field. Not everyone will share the same beliefs as you, and there are many who have had traumatic experiences within religious groups, so while your messages may be meant in a light-hearted or good intended way, the people those messages can get to may not read them in that way.

We will not be taking actions against people who have already put in religious messages, unless the messages themselves cross a line or rule that we do not allow, but we do request that you do not put more in.

Thank you for listening, and happy egg hunting to all!

----------------------

It's been requested a few times that I add this to the news post:

From the Terms of Service:
"The following topics are considered to be mature [M]: politics, religion, sex, sexual innuendo or jokes, artistic nudity, sexuality, self harm or other such behavior or thoughts and swearing."

These subjects should be limited to forum threads that are indicated as M/mature in the title, and as such are not appropriate to be shared in the egg field as no such indication can be made prior to the egg being selected.

I hope that helps to further clarify matters =)

It would've been a lot less discriminatory if this post had been phrased as a reminder that anything that requires an M in the title on the forums isn't allowed in eggs. Buuuut it wasn't.

Well done, Aywas. Well done.

This is nice but weird since “merry Christmas” is allowed in presents?

I don't understand. I don't see anywhere in the post where it mentions any specific religion, let alone censors or discriminates against it. It... basically is just a reminder to not put religious mentions into the egg field? (Because it is an [M] topic, and thus shouldn't be in the field?)

Now I feel dumb lol it’s just overly religious messages so that makes sense! Also Kyria it’s hard to argue discrimination when Aywas hosts Christian holidays like Easter and Christmas and not Jewish, Hindu, Muslim, etc. holidays. It’s less discriminating and more protecting people from messages that may feel like people are trying to convert.

Personally I’m not triggered and can just close the egg field but respect that others need this rule.

Here you go! Rename to "Spring Spheres Field" No toes mashed.

To address a few things:

We've been planning to rename all the holidays to something not based on our real world, and make it something that - while it shares the same timing - is more uniquely Aywas. That way we can encompass different ideas that won't make people feel it goes against the holiday we've ostensibly named it for.

As others noted, eggs and spring go hand in hand in a number of religions new and old, so we won't lose anything that we already have, it'll just go by another name. We haven't solidified on names that we like yet (other than Aymas, which was really a user-born name that we enjoyed using!) but we're working on it!

As others have noted, things such as "Happy Easter" aren't the issue - nor is saying Merry Christmas, Happy Yule, or any other variant on general well-wishing with a holiday title at that time of year; these are not offensive, and we feel are your right to express. However there were several very specific messages that were making users uncomfortable which caused the necessity of this news post, and no - not all of them were Christian-centric, so the assumption that they were is confusing to me as I was being very careful to make it clear that this request is not tied to, nor the "fault" of, any singular group of people.

And honestly, in the moment of trying to sort this, I did forget that religion is considered an M rated subject or I would have opened and closed with that, and slipped religion in as one of the examples. My goal here wasn't to single out any singular person, message, or religion, and I'm saddened to see that leap was made and people have been hurt regardless. I apologise for my oversight in handling this matter.

I hope you know that Easter is one of many Christian holidays derived from much older Pagan origins. Regardless, modern traditions often separate religious connotations from holidays. Just because someone celebrates Easter or similar holidays doesn't mean they're Christian or believe in those things.
Regardless, thanks, admins, for this.

To be honest, getting religious messages in my eggs makes me feel the same as when I get passed those "Are you going to Heaven?" pamphlets by kind old people at the drive-thru window. They mean well but it's super awkward for me because I'm pretty agnostic. I'm glad this rule got added but I'm also glad there're more grounds for it being disallowed with it falling under an [M] tag rather than just general discomfort.
