Thirty years on, we have been asked to place this item in Trash for Treasure to commemorate the lives lost in the tragic Challenger disaster, and to remind us that those who have passed before will always live on within those that remember them.

This HA background will be stocking until February 1st.

I remember sitting in school that day, watching the launch and seeing the shuttle explode. It was a tragic event, one that changed how the launches were conducted and what we, the people, were allowed to see with them. Ironically, I later married a man whose father worked on the parts for the shuttle out of a place in Utah. He had a hard time once it came to light where the faulty O ring was manufactured, thinking it was somehow something he'd done wrong.

Let's not forget the brave man, and first woman, who set foot on that shuttle, thinking they were going to touch the stars. That was their dream, and now, it's their reality...

Indeed, FennecTECH (#57779) -- this is actually meant to celebrate every launch. I chose this one because it happened on my 10th birthday during school. It had a profound impact on me. I didn't learn about what had truly happened till maybe last year.

And like Celtie (#34865) said - it was also the moment that changed Nasa, the way the nation viewed the Space Program, etc.

In so many ways, Challenger impacted the lives of not just a few schoolkids - but also the lives of everyone in the WORLD in ways that maybe not everyone realizes. :)

it did not change the way i viewed the space program for i was not alive then but the cloumbia only encreased my wish to got o space

Sadly this was before my time but i always heard about it from my family and how they were always nervous whenever they watched them take off to space and hope they come back safe. I get scared of heights just walking on stairs, the courage and bravery these people have above and beyond!
